Your Anaesthetist’s primary concern is your safety, they determine how to manage your operation to minimise your pain and they stay with you throughout the surgery to monitor all your vital functions and make any necessary adjustments to your anaesthetic during the procedure. Your Anaesthetist is also responsible for monitoring your recovery and pain management post operatively.

• What are the risks? The risk of having an anaesthetic depends on your general health. Modern anaesthesia is based on pre-operative assessment and intra-operative care and serious complications are rare. However, please ensure you give your Anaesthetist all medical details requested and discuss any specific concerns you may have with them prior to your operation.

• How much will my anaesthetic cost? The final cost is determined by a number of factors; these include the pre-operative assessment, any patient high risk factors (e.g. age, obesity, emergency), the procedure itself (& any associated risks) and total time taken when the operation is performed. Time is a key factor in the final fee so it is only possible to get a fee estimate for most procedures.
